Aren’t we lucky that we have so many quality products to choose from in our lives? Today I’ve been looking at sleeping pads to add to our camping equipment and I’ve found two that really caught my eye. First was the Exped Downmat 7 made with UV- and abrasion-resistant polyester fabric. This mat has 700-fill power goose down inside to insulate you from the cold ground and the baffle chambers prevent cold spots. It's warm and very comfortable to sleep on and takes up less room than the old Thermarests due to the superb compression factor. It’s easy to be enthusiastic about these new air mattresses because they are so effortless to inflate. Gone are the days when you had to huff and puff until you got blue in the face blowing up air mattresses without a pump. Here, the stuff sack acts as the pump and its dual valves allow maximum airflow. An important factor is that when you inflate the pad with the pump, rather than by mouth, it keeps the goose down dry for optimal performance and the Nocar treatment prevents molding and clumping. The second sleeping pad that impressed me was the Pacific Outdoor Equipment Ether Thermo 6 Sleeping Pad. It’s another insulated air mattress. This sleeping pad is supreme and provides great support for side sleeping – just phenomenal! These 2 pads are very compact and light for the amount of insulated padding that they offer. The synthetic fill insulation inserted into the tubes, gives them a true three-season capability and they take very little room when rolled up. Aren’t we lucky to have such choices?
