Little did I know, when I was first miraculously dragged out of the water, finding myself standing shakily on 2 clumsy water skis, holding on to a simple rope for dear life behind a belching speedboat, that I was going to be enjoying wakeboarding almost a 3rd of a century later!! After a few years in hiatus (and after being double-dared by my friends) I recently bought a Liquid Force Custom Thruster Wakesurfer 2009 and I’ve never looked back! It didn’t take me long to master the shorter rope as well as the much different surfing on the wakes and now I am hooked! This board is lightweight and fast with sharp rails at the back, which makes it highly maneuverable. Its hull is also concave which provides you with extra upward lift, preventing drag. It is highly maneuverable and thanks to the grooves on the deck, you have great grip in the rocky motions of the wakes. Since I first embarked on my wakeboard, my smile hasn’t stopped and I am always looking forward to the next wave! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Young or old - try it! You’ll like it!

Let me tell you about this phenomenal new trailer. It's the one everybody is raving about (I even saw it mentioned on Twitter!). It’s called the SylvanSport GO. Gone are the days when you had to have 2 trailers, one tent trailer for weekend camping and another trailer for hauling garden waste, building material, your ATV and mountain bikes etc. That did work in a pinch but remember how you had to have a certain rack for your bikes and a different setup for your dirt bikes. And when... Continue reading...

Time to go fishing for flies…I mean WITH flies and a rod that can handle those heavy salmon and steelheads! We have seen some wonderful rivers on our travels. Some with those deep dark shoals where you know those elusive heavyweights lurk but they have always been way over on the other side, well out of reach for a regular casting rod. After looking around in our local fishing supply stores, we found this great 4-p... Continue reading...

Since revolutionary bikes was the last item on my Have To Have list, this little Garmin Edge 205 Cycling GPS unit is the perfect companion to be attached to one of them. A little device like this is very useful for many different reasons, which you will see in a moment. Here is a little rundown of its advantages: The Edge 205 attaches easily on your handlebars or seat stem with its bike mount. The only thing you have to do next is to acquire a satellite signal and go! It is both lig... Continue reading...

My husband and I have enjoyed camping for many years and sometimes he has brought his mountain bike with him while I have remained at camp reading a book or preparing supper. I am not especially crazy about bicycle riding, because of weak knees. I have always looked at bikes as something beyond my capability, especially seeing my sweaty husband coming back from a life “on the gravel road”. But I have to tell you about my new life as a bicyclist with my new found friend, the Urban Mover UM... Continue reading...

I was looking out the kitchen window this morning and I realize that something was amiss on top of our 4X4 camping truck. Then I realized what it was. It was empty! Usually we have our old scratched and patched fiberglass canoe on top of it. Good luck to the person who took it because that means that now we can get a new one. Without delay, I dove into REI’s Canoe Section and almost immediately, I found exactly what I would like to invest in. It is the Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe and I am... Continue reading...

What? A wilderness recliner? Yes, I know, it sounds like a pretty bad oxy moron! But the fact is that you CAN include a recliner in your outdoor equipment gear! This elegant recliner is super comfortable because of it’s patented back support technology. It’s easy to set up, has a frame with a durable powder coat finish and weighs only 9 lbs. It’s called the GCI Outdoors Wilderness Recliner and it has an amazingly strong and tough aluminum frame, which will effortlessly support up to a... Continue reading...

Today I was reading through some promo material that I sent for last week. We have decided to do something we have never done before. We are going whitewater rafting on the Fraser River!! I know we will get a kick out of it and, after we’ve learned some useful information about how to have safe outdoors fun on the water, a river kayak is next on our wish list. But I know that first we need good PFD’s and, after looking through some ads on the web, this one looks pretty darn good to me. ... Continue reading...

So now, all is well for the 2009 outdoor hiking camping season. We did a thorough checkup of all our outdoor equipment gear and upgraded a few items that probably would have caused us some grief smack dab in the middle of a rainy and windy night, including a new tent etc. But Hey…speaking of rain - one thing that I did not pay enough attention to, was the rain jacket for me when we’re on the trail. Sure, I have the one I bought 4 years ago, but it’s starting to get tattered and ripped... Continue reading...

Today I smelled the pines in a gentle breeze from the forest behind me and one thing popped up in my mind: I need new hiking shoes! Not hiking boots - but lightweight durable hiking shoes. So over to the computer I went and lo and behold, the first hiking shoe that appeared on my search was the Merrell Women’s Moab Ventilator Hiking Shoe. These shoes are named Ventilator due to their ability to breathe and keep the foot cool and dry thanks to the mesh lining. These hiking shoes ar... Continue reading...
