If You Only Have One Canoe This Should Be It!

Posted by Vicki on Sunday, May 10, 2009, In : REI
I was looking out the kitchen window this morning and I realize that something was amiss on top of our 4X4 camping truck. Then I realized what it was. It was empty! Usually we have our old scratched and patched fiberglass canoe on top of it. Good luck to the person who took it because that means that now we can get a new one. Without delay, I dove into REI’s Canoe Section and almost immediately, I found exactly what I would like to invest in. It is the Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe and I am...

Finally, Grandpa Winter is loosening his grip and Spring is rushing in to grab the baton. This is the perfect time to start planning a daytime outdoor activity.  It’s time to do some serious communing with nature. What better way than to paddle down a rushing river in an inflatable kayak? Check it out!  The Transparent Canoe Kayak! Using this kayak-canoe hybrid, made of a transparent polymer hull, could prove to be one the most fun, exciting, educational and , maybe, sometimes a little unnerving experiences you could have.  Kids would love it.  Last month Conny, Aero and I went camping at Harrison Lake, which is a local lake that gets quite a big salmon run this time of year.  The salmon (Coho, I think) were running thick quite near the shore and up into all the little creeks....

Posted by Vicki on Monday, December 1, 2008, In : Porta-Bote

I just got back from a visit with our local Porta-Bote representative and I’m quite impressed.  For a long time now my husband, Conny, and I have been wishing that we had a small boat to take backcountry camping with us.  We often go on 4x4 logging roads that are too rough to pull a boat and trailer and some of these roads are quite narrow with tree branches brushing the top of the canopy that makes strapping a bulky boat on the roof not an option.  We find it so frustrating to camp at the ...
