Check it out! The Transparent Canoe Kayak! Using this kayak-canoe hybrid, made of a transparent polymer hull, could prove to be one the most fun, exciting, educational and , maybe, sometimes a little unnerving experiences you could have. Kids would love it. Last month Conny, Aero and I went camping at Harrison Lake, which is a local lake that gets quite a big salmon run this time of year. The salmon (Coho, I think) were running thick quite near the shore and up into all the little creeks. It would have been an amazing experience to have been sitting in this boat watching all those fish swirling around underneath us. Actually, Aero would have gone crazy and I would have probably been freaked out having all those big 3 foot long fish bumping into the sides. I’m sure it would have be safe because the material the hull of this river canoe-kayak is made of is the same material that the cockpit canopies of the supersonic fighter jets is made of. Still, it would have been quite disconcerting. There would be a lot of fun times to be had from a boat like this, wouldn’t there? If you were in tropical waters, it would be incredible. Even here, on the west coast, there is a lot of sea life to observe. Can you imagine gliding through the crystal clear waters of a mountain lake, so clear that you can see the bottom? It would feel like you were suspended above ground. I don’t think I’d like to be sitting in this transparent hybrid floating in the middle of a big lake like Harrison Lake where you can’t see the bottom because it’s so deep and dark. I think my fear of heights might kick in. In any event, it would be an adventure. I really think kids would have a blast with this boat. If you want to see a picture of it, you can find it at “hammacher.com”. You can just type in “The Transparent Canoe Kayak” in the search field. Happy camping and paddling!
